What types of cover are available?

There are three types of cover which all insurance companies or brokers will offer you when looking for a quote:

  1. Third Party: By law this is the minimum level of cover permitted. You the insured are recognised as the first party, the insurance company are the second party and the person who makes a claim against your policy is the third party. Third party insurance covers you and anybody insured under your policy for legal responsibility. This means your insurance company should pay damages for injury you may have caused to any person or damage you do to their property when using your vehicle, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

  1. Third Party Fire and Theft: As well as third party cover your vehicle if also covered against fire, theft or an attempted theft, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

  1. Comprehensive: This covers you against the loss of or damage to your vehicle that is caused accidentally or maliciously, as well as covering you for third party and third party fire and theft, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.
